In an email sent to all staff the university gave an update on changes to proffesional sevices leadership. This followed after the collective consultation period at the university came to an end.

Kirsteen Campbell, Chief Operating Officer, in the email, said that:

‘I recognise that this announcement follows a prolonged and difficult period of change and uncertainty across the university. During this time, colleagues have continued to support our students, our academic community and one another, often in challenging circumstances.’

These changes and new leadership arrangements mark another important step in the development of the university’s integrated professional services model.

The Directors will lead the next phase of bringing these integrated areas together from the week beginning 21 September.

Student and Education Support Hub

Earlier this year, education administration staff from across faculties were brought together into a single service. The Student and Education Support Hub enables a more joined-up and consistent approach to the delivery of services for students and staff.

Grainne Barr, current Faculty Director of Operations for the faculties of Science, Engineering and Business and Arts and Social Sciences, has been appointed Director of Operations for the Student and Education Support Hub.

Academic and Library Services

Hannah Whaley will continue her leadership as Director of the new Academic and Library Services directorate, and as the University Librarian.

In the email, Kirsteen stated:

‘Hannah will lead the newly formed team and build on the strong foundations and successes achieved to date. Colleagues have continued to provide a first-class service to students and staff throughout a demanding period, and I would like to recognise and thank them for their continued dedication.’

Global Engagement, Future Students and External Relations

The Global Engagement, Future Students and External Relations teams will come together to form a new directorate. Kirsteen stated that:

‘These teams already work closely across several areas, and this change will build on those strong connections, strengthen collaboration and support a more integrated approach.’

The new directorate will be led by a single Director for which an internal and external recruitment process will begin shortly.

Research and Innovation Operations

Rebecca Leiper, current Faculty Director of Operations for the faculties of Health and Life Sciences, has been appointed Director of Operations for Research and Innovation.

This new service will provide a clearer and more coordinated route into the University’s research and innovation activities and strengthen support across the research lifecycle.

Other Changes and Next Steps

There will also be a realignment of some other areas, and the Health and Safety, PMO and Strategic Planning teams will be moving into the University Secretary’s portfolio.

Kirsteen concluded by stating that:

“I know that new structures and appointments alone do not change the experiences of the last few years. They do, however, give us an opportunity to move forward, bringing these new teams together, rebuilding capacity and confidence, and focusing on how we strengthen and improve the services we provide.”
