The only place for Dundee University student news — independent, student-run, and free.
The Jute Journal exists to give Dundee University students their voice back, and to hold power to account. We’re an independent, student-run newspaper covering the things that actually shape student life — society events, university decisions, strike action, Dundee city news, and commentary on the wider issues our readers care about.
We were founded in February 2025 during a period of institutional uncertainty at the University, and have grown into Dundee’s only student newspaper. We’re part of DUSA Media and the Student Publication Association.

Eva is a 4th year English and Philosophy student who loves music, writing, and photography. A ladies Gaelic Football Team player, former rugby player, Deputy EIC of The Magdalen, and frequent customer at Orwell’s for a Pacifico.

We’re always looking for new reporters, photographers, production editors, designers, and social media contributors.
Reporters pitch stories, conduct interviews, work within a dedicated team and write news, local, or commentary pieces.
Apply as a Reporter →Photographers attend interviews and events to capture images that tell the story. They also contribute photos to the newsletter if they wish.
Apply as a Photographer →Production Editors ensure that all articles published online and in print are accurate, well-written, and properly formatted before going live.
Apply as a Production Editor →Designers help craft our print editions, working within a larger team on Adobe InDesign to improve and design existing templates.
Apply as a Designer →Our social team runs the Instagram and helps decide which stories land where. Good for anyone who likes the editorial side but wants to work in posts and reels rather than 800-word articles.
