In an email to students, Professor Linda Martindale, Vice-Principal for Education and Student Experience, announced that there will be no reductions to resources for the counselling service or the disability advisor service.
The email comes as the University reworks its proposals following the end of the consultation period. It says that protecting learning and student experience has been foremost in the University’s mind throughout.
A list of changes to the proposals is then given:
“The proposals envisaged reducing staffing by around 190 posts. That has been reduced to 154”
“There will be no reduction in counselling service resources or disability service advisor resources”
“Changes have been made to support the Student Funding Unit, which offers advice and administers hardship and other funds”
“The Global Room space will be retained, with a review of how to use this for student support and to ensure a continued sense of belonging for students”
“Additional resource will be allocated to the Immigration Compliance team to protect this work”
Prof. Martindale recognised the pressure on students and the growing need for support, particularly relating to mental health and disability. Changes are still being made to support services, and some have moved to different locations around campus.
“The establishment of a new Student and Education Support Hub, which is now operating from the Old Medical School Building (with satellite teams based at our Kirkcaldy and Ninewells campuses), integrates Registry and Student Services. This, together with the new information and enquiry hub in the Main Library, will be a key contact point for students on City Campus.”
The email also refers to proposals to suspend a small number of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from September 2027. It does not name the courses affected, though the University has previously confirmed that these include Mathematics and Philosophy. On these, the email states: “These changes do not affect continuing students or any students starting in 2026/27. Any student who is already on a course will complete their degree at Dundee.”
The email finishes by recognising students’ concerns and says Prof. Martindale will continue to update students over the coming weeks and months.
