The Cooper Gallery at DJCAD and Jam Radio are hosting ‘an unforgettable night of alien boogie‘ this Friday.

This ‘LET LOOSE’ dance party is part of the Cooper Gallery’s ‘open-ended coda’ to five years of its ‘Ignorant Art School’ programme, which explored the idea of ‘education as the practice of freedom‘ through experimental works by contemporary artists. Party-goers will get to boogie through the gallery space.

The party, co-organised by Jam Radio of DUSA Media and Teyo from the Cooper Gallery’s Student Curatorial Team, will direct profits to DUSA Volunteers’ Campus Pantry and FoodStop cost-of-living initiatives.

The event is ‘Bring Your Own Booze’ and the DJ lineup comprises Ivero, Poro, Guayabx, and emILY.

While admission costs £6.13, the organisers also encourage attendees to ‘pay it forward’ for another person or to donate more with a £9.38 Solidarity Ticket on Eventbrite. Pay-it-forward tickets can be claimed by students for free by contacting Jam Radio via Instagram or email.

The LET LOOSE poster is by Leyla Hussain, with a cool ‘alien’ behind a DJ set. Its promotional post on Instagram says,

They [extraterrestrials] are bringing the music and the vibes. Your mission is to bring the energy, and all your mates. Dance in the middle of an exhibition, yap, donate and have a great time.

If you miss the dance party, the Cooper Gallery’s Jamming The Ignorant Art School exhibition continues running until mid-December from Thursdays to Saturdays, with special workshops and other interactive events scheduled on select days too.
