A second walk-in clinic in Scotland will open in Lochee, Dundee next Monday as part of the pilot the Scottish Government has launched to cut GP wait times.
This is one of 15 set to launch in Scotland part of the initial pilot scheme.
The number of Scottish patients waiting to be seen has been slowly decreasing since it peaked in September 2024 at 728,500.
The number of patients waiting dropped to 718,000 in March 2025.
The Scottish Government is investing £531 million in GPs after First Minister John Swinney said he is:
“committed to delivering 15 new walk in GP centres… that will be up and running in a matter of weeks.”
These GPs aim to stop the manic rush at 8am to get an appointment at your local GP.
They are expected to deliver over one million additional GP and nurse appointments.
Of the £531 million going to GPs £36 million will be allocated to the pilot scheme.
The GP will be opening 12pm to 8pm seven days a week, offering a walk in service with no appointment booking needed.
The current pilot scheme is a test to see if it improves the current NHS system and to see if it will make wait times better.
The walk in services will be available to anyone registered with the local GP practices within the catchment of identified site.
For the Dundee centre this will start as patients registered with Lochee Health Centre.
Currently there is one open walk-in centre in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh.
