Around 40 residents have been evacuated from a block on Old Hawkhill Road as a bulge has appeared above Tinsmiths bordering campus.

At around midday on Thursday, the Fire Department were alerted to a building giving way above the student-loved pub.

Residents were informed this morning of a crevice developing on the side of their apartments. To their shock, they were told they had five minutes to pack an overnight bag and vacate the building.

The Council has since sent contractors to erect scaffolding around the building to discover the extent of the damage, and find out if it can be repaired.

It was originally thought the block would be closed for only 24 hours. However, it still remains closed.

Residents have received no indication of when they will be able to return top their homes.

It is currently not known why this has occurred, but there seems to be severe structural damage.

Updates will follow once The Jute Journal knows more.
